Celebrating the diversity within a community, as well as the uniqueness of the individual is vital now more than ever. The opportunity to share joy, celebrate and embrace our differences and our commonalities is essential. The NectArena Women’s Stage (formerly the Nectar Women’s Performance Stage) at San Francisco’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Celebration is this very opportunity, and we invite you to join us.
Inspired by requests from women, the Women’s Stage celebrated her successful debut in 2001, creating a unique venue to highlight women’s talent as one panel in the textured quilt of the gay and lesbian community. Melissa Ferrick, the Butchies and Tribe 8 were just a few of the amazing performers that brought the stage to life. Women flocked to the Nectar Stage, finally feeling there was a venue specifically speaking to them. Nectar was the first ever women’s stage in the 30-year history of San Francisco Pride and has been committed to bringing together the creativity and passions of women within the larger celebration.
In 2007 the Nectar Women's Performance Stage transformed into the NectArena Women's Stage. NectArena is the evolution and celebration of lesbian focused entertainment at the SF Pride Celebration. NectArena features an expanded amazing array of talent on-stage including the best in hip hop, rock, Latin groove, dance, percussion, DJs, and girl bands, as well as, special guest appearances by lesbian and gay friendly actors and performers. But that’s not all! The entire women’s block is transformed into a dynamic arena of fun, sexy performances, games designed to entertain, and opprotunities to build community connections and empower all who join the experience.
This year NectArena has teamed up with San Francisco Pride and Miz Chris to present the Women's Dance and Performance Pavilion. Your support will help make the pavilion “the” place to be, post-parade. The women's stage is independently produced by a small but dedicated production team and supported by the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers. However, to make this celebration possible, NectArena depends on the generous support of individual donors and business leaders like you. We hope that we can work together to strengthen the presence of the women’s community at the pride festivities.
